Emerged in the UK in the mid-to-late 2000s, with Burial's Untrue (Hyperdub, 2007) as its touchstone; the name is credited to producer Whistla around 2009 (before the Future Garage Forum opened that November), and early-2010s producers such as Sorrow, Synkro, Phaeleh, Clubroot and Submerse defined the core sound.

About Future garage

Future garage is a UK-rooted electronic style that slows and softens the shuffling rhythms of 2-step and UK garage, usually landing around 130–140 BPM with loose, off-grid hi-hats. Tracks lean on pitched and chopped vocal fragments, warm filtered sub or reese bass, and heavy atmosphere: pads, field recordings and vinyl crackle. It grew out of the post-dubstep moment as producers turned away from wobble bass toward something more intimate and nocturnal, better suited to headphones than to peak-time clubs. A second, largely online generation from the mid-2010s spread the sound across Europe, Russia and the US and fed directly into the emerging wave scene.
